As a major assignment for Historic Scotland, I visited all of their island-based properties to write and photograph them for a long-running blog:

'Around the Scottish Islands in 80 Monuments'

This blog is now offline, following the merger of Historic Scotland with the Royal Commission on Ancient and Historic Monuments to form Historic Environment Scotland, but I'm planning to re-visit some of the material in further blogs and in published form before too long.

It was an amazing set of journeys. The lure of islands has always been powerful for me. Now my liking for stone circles, chambered cairns, castles and many more aspects of built heritage has also grown strong. I just want to keep going back to many of these places.
